Hello and welcome to the YouTube Success podcast.
Speaker:My name is Matt Hughes, King and Video, and I'm today
Speaker:talking to you about resources.
Speaker:It's a little bit of a break from YouTube.
Speaker:No, it's not true.
Speaker:It's not a break at all.
Speaker:Actually, we've got loads of things in the resources that
Speaker:we can talk about YouTube wise.
Speaker:I'm actually going to focus this episode on streaming software because I get asked
Speaker:this question all the time like how can I?
Speaker:Well, there's a couple of questions that are related to streaming that I get asked.
Speaker:And one of them is how do I stream to multiple platforms in one go?
Speaker:And the other one is how do I live stream my pre-recorded videos?
Speaker:So this could be my YouTube videos, right?
Speaker:And I wanted to highlight the resources section because it's something that's
Speaker:free that's available to you right now.
Speaker:If you go to kingofvideo.co.uk/resources, you're going to find a page with
Speaker:all of the things I'm talking about.
Speaker:We're going to add that to the show notes for every show from now on and
Speaker:I'll probably get my VA to go back and add it to all the previous show notes
Speaker:as well because this resources page we're just going to build on over time
Speaker:and I wanted to focus on, Oh, before I go to streaming software, cause that
Speaker:is the question I want to answer, but I would also mention that there's a
Speaker:YouTube tool section there as well.
Speaker:So there's TubeSpanner on there, there's TubeBuddy on there and there's VidIQ.
Speaker:If you're new to YouTube, you might not know about those tools.
Speaker:They are all tools that help you with YouTube in lots of different ways.
Speaker:So it will do things like show you how many subscribers other people
Speaker:have got, how many views they've got.
Speaker:Like it's called channelitics or one of the tools calls it channelitics.
Speaker:So it gives you loads more information about the channel that you watch in.
Speaker:You've got things like vidIQ will show you the thumbnail for each video
Speaker:and you can download the thumbnail.
Speaker:So you can do research around thumbnails.
Speaker:You can do A/B testing in TubeBuddy for your thumbnails as well.
Speaker:YouTube are enabling that in their own platform organically, but TubeBuddy
Speaker:was the original way to do that.
Speaker:And then TubeSpanner's got a whole load of creator tools that are
Speaker:specifically focused on YouTubers.
Speaker:So check out some of those YouTube tools in the resources section.
Speaker:But in this episode, I'm just going to focus on those streaming bits of software.
Speaker:And my streaming life from a multicasting point of view.
Speaker:So like going to more than one channel at one time, split across
Speaker:a couple of different things.
Speaker:So has a bit of a history to it.
Speaker:So originally I started with StreamYard and I think StreamYard have done one
Speaker:of the best marketing jobs in the world in terms of online businesses,
Speaker:because if I talk about multi-streaming or broadcast into multiple places in
Speaker:the online world, everybody mentioned StreamYard and I used to love StreamYard.
Speaker:I think it's fair to say I still do love all of these tools.
Speaker:I wouldn't recommend any of them if I didn't love them.
Speaker:But I moved my attention from StreamYard after about a year and a half into
Speaker:Restream and largely it was because I became part of their influencer program.
Speaker:So it definitely was like morally, it was like I got paid to be
Speaker:in their influencer program.
Speaker:So morally, I just got I was just bought out I sold out to the man.
Speaker:But I started to look into Restream and I'd used it before and it just felt like
Speaker:a more complicated platform originally when I was looking at streaming out
Speaker:of Restream, but I started to love it.
Speaker:I started to love the dashboard that they've got, the control
Speaker:panel, the broadcasting studio, sorry is a better way to describe
Speaker:it, the studio that they've got.
Speaker:I liked the interface more.
Speaker:It seemed to have a better quality than StreamYard.
Speaker:I don't know if that is changed.
Speaker:I don't want to make any unfair comments towards StreamYard, but I started
Speaker:to like the broadcast quality of it.
Speaker:And it just became a more robust platform for me to use.
Speaker:Then we had a OneStream came in.
Speaker:I bought a lifetime deal for OneStream.
Speaker:You'll find these links on the resources page.
Speaker:OneStream, there were sort of disclaimer wise, there were a sponsor for,
Speaker:Creator Day when it was called Creator Day, it's called Creator Live now.
Speaker:This is our virtual summit.
Speaker:And they offered me to use their platform and I realised I'd had a lifetime deal.
Speaker:Anyone that uses AppSumo, big up to my Sumo lings, whoever's used those,
Speaker:you'll know about these lifetime deals and I bought one for OneStream.
Speaker:So I had the platform anyway and I had the option to use the service.
Speaker:I just never really fell in love with it like I did the other platforms.
Speaker:But we used it for Creator Day and it was fantastic, very robust, we were
Speaker:able to upload the videos for the episodes and then send them out to the
Speaker:different platforms that we wanted to.
Speaker:So all of those things are really great and I think they're great multi
Speaker:casting platforms that you can use.
Speaker:Any of those three, there's links to all three of them.
Speaker:What I would say to you is to try them and figure out yourself
Speaker:which one you prefer using.
Speaker:For some of you, when software they say it's like, not
Speaker:innovative, what's the word?
Speaker:It's intuitive.
Speaker:When people, when software companies say it's intuitive, I
Speaker:think that's quite subjective.
Speaker:Like it depends on what level of techy you are as to whether
Speaker:you find it intuitive or not.
Speaker:Intuitive is supposed to mean you're not.
Speaker:You don't have to be a techy to do it.
Speaker:You can just pick it up and move along really easily.
Speaker:I think that's probably why StreamYard won out in the end, but all of them now
Speaker:are much, much easier to use and a lot more intuitive than they used to be.
Speaker:And then the last one worth mentioning, which I have to mention because I
Speaker:use this for my recording and I use it for my streaming now is Ecamm.
Speaker:The only reason I leave this tool last is because it's a Mac-only piece of software.
Speaker:So if you're on a Windows or a PC, you're not going to be able to use
Speaker:it, but if you're on a Mac, Ecamm has just been wonderful for us.
Speaker:We've used it for streaming.
Speaker:We've used it for broadcasting.
Speaker:It used, in fact, it still does partner up with Restream so you can stream from
Speaker:Ecamm into Restream Studio and then use the studio to broadcast as well.
Speaker:And we've also used it as a virtual camera.
Speaker:So you can build your show, your live stream inside of Ecamm and then you can
Speaker:use a virtual camera as the output into Zoom, for example, they actually have
Speaker:tight integration with Zoom as well.
Speaker:What that means in practical terms is that I can create high quality broadcast level
Speaker:live streams in Ecamm with overlays, with timers, with all the kind of stuff that
Speaker:you would have on a like a live broadcast show and I can put that into Zoom.
Speaker:So when I've done guest expert sessions, when I've done like I have a couple
Speaker:of guest expert sessions that I do, for groups, you know, presentations
Speaker:effectively is what they are.
Speaker:I can use broadcast quality software inside a Zoom, and
Speaker:it just makes me look amazing.
Speaker:It makes me look like I really know what I'm doing.
Speaker:So if you want to do the same thing and you've got a Mac, then Ecamm is
Speaker:definitely the platform of choice, but I would say all four of those
Speaker:pieces of software I really love.
Speaker:I only recommend software that I love, that I think has a
Speaker:great purpose in the world.
Speaker:All four of them have a huge audience.
Speaker:They all have great user communities in all of their user
Speaker:communities, great support, great advocates of their products.
Speaker:If you go and spend some time in their user communities, you'll find brilliant
Speaker:live streaming experts in there as well, and you'll be surrounded by great people,
Speaker:cool people that really want to do a lot of stuff when it comes to YouTube,
Speaker:streaming, all of that kind of stuff.
Speaker:So whilst this episode is all about my resources section, something free
Speaker:for you guys to go in and check out and take advantage of, I just wanted
Speaker:to focus on those YouTube tools.
Speaker:Obviously we're here in the YouTube Success podcast, we should talk about
Speaker:YouTube tools and then of course the live streaming software as well.
Speaker:I hope that's been helpful.
Speaker:We will continue to update that resources section.
Speaker:I'll continue to add things that I use, that I love, that I think you should pay
Speaker:attention to and hopefully this episode will not die deaf and that website will
Speaker:disappear or the page will disappear.
Speaker:In fact, forget the hopefully, of course it will be there forever.
Speaker:All right, my name is Matt Hughes, King of Video.
Speaker:I'll see you on the next YouTube Success podcast.
