Tip #1:  Adding Alternative Angles

When creating videos for YouTube, it’s important to add alternative angles and perspectives to your footage. This will help keep viewers engaged and create an immersive experience.

One of the most important aspects of adding alternative angles is to avoid the “nose-cam” perspective or what I call “Nostril view.” This is when the camera is focused on the subject’s face from a nose-level point of view. While this angle may be convenient, it can often be unflattering and create an unprofessional look to the video.

Instead, opt for different angles and camera positions such as a bird’s eye view, a side shot, or a close-up. This will give viewers a better understanding of what’s going on in the scene and make it more interesting to watch.

Tip #2: B-roll

Additionally, consider adding B-roll shots to help move the story along. B-roll is footage that supplements the main scene and can include images like scenery, animals, people, objects, and more. This will add depth to your video and make it more visually appealing.

B-roll is often the most overlooked aspect of video production. It refers to additional shots that supplement the main shot. It can range from cutaways of people talking, to interesting landscape shots, to action sequences, and more.

Using a B-roll allows you to show more of what’s happening in a scene or even provide a different angle to show the same thing. It also helps keep your viewers engaged by offering something new and fresh to look at.

When it comes to shooting B-roll footage, there are no real rules – it’s all about what looks good on camera. Think about what kind of footage would complement the main shot and start shooting. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your angles and perspectives. You can even use props, pans or zooms, to create interesting movements and add more drama to a scene.

Finally, don’t forget about the sound! Make sure you’re recording audio for all of your B-roll so you have enough to choose from when you’re editing. With a great B-roll, you’ll be able to make your videos come alive!

Tip #3: Location

Location can be a very important factor when it comes to creating better YouTube videos. Depending on the kind of content you create the location you choose can have a big impact on how viewers perceive your video. If you’re creating a travel video, for example, having interesting or unique backdrops or scenery is essential to making an interesting video. On the other hand, if you’re making a product demonstration video, choosing the right place to film can help show off your product in the best way possible.

When selecting your location, keep in mind factors like lighting, sound quality, and crowd noise. Natural lighting is often more desirable than artificial light, so if possible, try to find a spot that has good natural lighting. You also want to make sure that your audio will not be drowned out by background noise like traffic or people talking. If you’re filming indoors, consider using a microphone for improved sound quality.

Finally, make sure that the location you choose is appropriate for the type of video you are making. For example, if you’re creating a comedy skit, you may want to choose a fun location such as a park or beach that sets the tone for the video. If you’re filming something more serious, you might want to select a more professional-looking backdrop.

Ultimately, choosing the right location can make all the difference when it comes to making better YouTube videos. Take some time to think about your options before you start shooting and don’t be afraid to scout out multiple locations until you find one that works best for your video.

Tip #4: Planning

Planning is an essential step for creating better YouTube videos. Before you even think about picking up your camera, you should plan out what topic you want to cover and come up with an idea for how you want to present it. Start by brainstorming potential topics and ideas, and then narrow it down to the one that you think would best suit your audience. Once you have an idea of the topic you want to cover, it\’s time to create a plan that will help you create the perfect video.

Start by writing down a few key points or ideas that you want to cover in the video, along with any visual elements or footage you may need. If you have multiple people involved in the video, make sure you assign tasks and determine who is responsible for what. It’s also important to establish a timeline for when things need to be completed. This will help you stay on track and ensure that your video is finished in a timely manner.

Finally, before you start filming, consider how you want to structure the video. What are the main points you want to hit? What kind of visuals do you want to use to enhance your message? Taking the time to plan ahead will save you time in the long run and help you create a better YouTube video!
